20th of November at 7pm
Join us for the seventh edition of our literary evening, presented in collaboration with the American Academy. The event features a conversation with Olivier Guez, Caroline Goodson, and Ilaria Puri Purini.

Taking inspiration from the exhibition Women in Ruins, the discussion will explore the remarkable journeys of Gertrude Bell, Esther Van Deman, the Bulwer Sisters and Marion Blake—women who travelled from the United States and the United Kingdom to Italy and beyond to document emerging archaeological discoveries. Their paths led from sites in Lazio and Campania to extended expeditions across present-day Iraq, Tunisia and Algeria. At a time when travel was far from simple, especially for women, they forged their own methods of observing, recording and interpreting landscapes, sites and societies.

During the evening, Olivier Guez will speak about his recent book Mesopotamia, in conversation with Caroline Goodson and Ilaria Puri Purini, curators of Women & Ruins: Archaeology, Landscape and Photography.
The discussion will be moderated by journalist and writer Raffaella Silvestri.
